چکیده

We analyze a method for serial writing of arbitrary two-dimensional patterns using optical focusing of a collimated atomic beam. A spatial light modulator is used in a side illumination geometry to create a localized optical spot with secondary maxima that are well separated from the central peak. Numerical simulation of a lithography experiment using a magneto-optical trap as a source of cold Cs atoms, collimation and cooling in a magnetic guide, and optical focusing predicts FWHM pixel sizes of 110 110 nm and writing times of 20 ms/pixel. © 2006 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 220.3740, 140.3320.

Nanometer-Scale Patterning on PMMA Resist by Force Microscopy Lithography

Nanoscale science and technology has today mainly focused on the fabrication of nano devices. In this paper, we study the use of lithography process to build the desired nanostructures directly. Nanolithography on polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) surface is carried out by using Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) equipped with silicon tip, in contact mode. The analysis of the results shows that the ...

Nanofabrication by magnetic focusing of supersonic beams

We present a new method for nanoscale atom lithography. We propose the use of a supersonic atomic beam, which provides an extremely high brightness and cold source of fast atoms. The atoms are to be focused onto a substrate using a thin magnetic film, into which apertures with widths on the order of 100 nm have been etched. Focused spot sizes near or below 10 nm, with focal lengths on the order...

Stability of three-dimensional self-trapped beams with a dark spot surrounded by bright rings of varying intensity.

We analytically and numerically examine the stability of three-dimensional self-trapped beams with a dark spot surrounded by bright rings of varying intensity in a uniform saturable self-focusing medium. It is shown that the fundamental bound state of the family is stable to a symmetric perturbation but unstable to an asymmetric perturbation (that breaks the azimuthal symmetry of the beam, i.e....

Polarization gradient light masks in atom lithography

– In atom lithography, neutral atoms are focused by laser light to form a periodic pattern on a substrate. We have realized two-dimensional structuring of chromium on a silicon substrate employing a polarization gradient light mask with uniform intensity. The generated structures exhibit peak-to-peak distances below half the laser wavelength. The results are explained by a theoretical model whi...
